Eastern Cape lyricist iFani makes a long-awaited return with “Msebenzi Wam” – an eight-track mixtape released through his own Asanda Empires label that announces a new chapter on his own terms.
iFani spent time away from the spotlight connecting with family and reconnecting with his cultural identity. That period of stillness is audible throughout “Msebenzi Wam.” Sharp isiXhosa lyricism still runs through every track. But the perspective behind it feels different now.
The project arrives with co-signs that matter. Big Xhosa took to social media within hours of the drop, writing that the tape is 🔥🔥🔥 – and given their history on “iKuku Endala” and “Ndiyaphindeka,” that endorsement carries real weight in South African hip-hop circles. Because Big Xhosa does not hand out praise casually.
Features from Csana, Snymaan, Vuyo Manyike, and Vee Sholo across the eight tracks give “Msebenzi Wam” its collaborative texture. But iFani drives the project alone. The two-part title track, “West Side,” “Corrections,” and “Into Zomhlaba” each show a different angle of an artist who has found renewed focus.
iFani is back. Stream “Msebenzi Wam” and tell us if this is the return South African hip-hop needed right now!
