Eastern rap star Kolaboy drops his first studio album, “Nwa Nwanyi Deeper Life,” a concept project built on Igbo storytelling.
The wait was deliberate. Kolaboy said he never gave fans a studio album because he wanted them inside his process first. He wanted to live the climb from hard days to glory before he rapped about it. So this debut arrives as a true story, not a made-up one.
The title points to a familiar figure: the modest church lady. Around that idea, Kolaboy explores moral upbringing, social norms, street hustle, and modern romance. Witty records show the friction between church modesty and real-world desire. Then quieter moments turn to gratitude, family roots, and staying true to your values.
The sound slides between highlife bounce and street rap drums. Ogene gongs, electric guitar riffs, and warm native percussion sit beside pounding kicks and rolling sub-bass. Kolaboy moves from rapid Igbo verses to chant-filled choruses and melodic hooks, and his proverbs keep the writing sharp. Because the mix stays spacious, every line lands clearly.
Fans already heard “Onu” with YungKeb and “Don’t Judge Me” with Paddy K. Both singles set up the album’s mix of grit and humour well.
For lovers of indigenous rap with a cultural message, this debut is worth a full sitting.
