Veteran Igbo rapper Slowdog calls on Kolaboy and Funny Dawg for Ego, a record about money and the hustle.
Ego is the Igbo word for money, so the title explains itself. The song deals with the hustle and the urge to keep a strong social standing. Short, repeated money expressions also run through it, so the focus stays on cash and a better life.
Kelvin U made the beat at oDIA Sound Lab. Slowdog and Kelvin U have worked together before, since Dorime (Ur Mama Don Chop?) lists the producer. One write-up calls the beat punchy and praises the witty Igbo flows laid over it.
Slowdog is also known as Slowdiggy. Write-ups still call him a pioneer of indigenous Igbo rap, a style from the south east. Kolaboy is an Enugu-born rapper, and his EP Kola from the East has a feature from Flavour. He builds songs from stories of his own life, starting with Hello Mummy.
Kolaboy and Slowdog already share Debit Alert, where Slowdog guested on a record produced by Caution Lxe. They also appear together on Ayakata, an Anyidons record. Funny Dawg wears several hats, among them actor and sound engineer.
Crank up Ego and tell us in the comments which verse hits hardest.
