Nigerian Afropop and highlife singer HumbleSmith opens his “Mr Melody” EP with “Aso Oke,” produced by DALORBEATS and mixed by ZegzMix under Show Bobo Music.

The title choice is perfect for an EP opener. Aso Oke instantly reminds many Nigerians of the prestigious Yoruba handwoven fabric worn during weddings, chieftaincy ceremonies and other memorable family celebrations – representing honour, tradition and the joy of showing up for life’s biggest moments with pride. So the record carries cultural weight before a single note plays. HumbleSmith does not borrow the reference casually. He builds the whole song around it.

The song combines Afropop and highlife elements, supported by bright melodies, steady rhythms, polished production and HumbleSmith’s expressive vocals, creating an enjoyable sound that remains rooted in culture. That combination is exactly what his audience has always connected with – the same instinct that made “Osinachi” with Phyno and Davido a landmark record over a decade ago. But “Aso Oke” does not chase nostalgia. It brings that cultural depth into a sound that feels current.

Opening the “Mr Melody” EP with this record is also a deliberate statement about what the project values. HumbleSmith is not starting with his most commercially obvious record or his most featured collaboration. He opens with something personally and culturally meaningful – and that signals the whole EP intends to say something real rather than just occupy streaming space.

The record opens HumbleSmith’s six-track Mr Melody EP, which also includes “Jealousy,” “Baby Fire,” “Pressure,” “Bolingo” featuring Umu Obiligbo and “Moment.”
