Zambian star T-Sean, also known as Baila, channels grief into “Nkosheni,” the fourth track on his tribute EP.
The song sits on “Woke Up Missing You,” a five-track project he made in memory of his late wife, Sharai. He did not treat it like a normal commercial release. Instead, he used music to document his thoughts through an incredibly hard time. So the whole EP carries an intimate weight.
Much of that weight comes from how the songs began. Many lyrics started as late-night notes typed into his phone. Others first appeared as WhatsApp statuses when the pain felt too heavy to carry alone. Later, T-Sean turned those private words into songs. Because of that, “Nkosheni” feels like a diary entry set to music.
The EP was also timed to mark what would have been Sharai’s birthday, which adds another layer of meaning.
Sitting right after “Tears Tequila Shots,” the song continues the honest mood of the project before “Chimanibaba” opens the energy back up. For anyone who has lost someone close, this stretch of the EP speaks plainly.
Stream “Nkosheni” and leave a kind word for T-Sean in the comments.
