Zambian star Yo Maps and Namibian rapper Lioness team up on “Wish You Knew,” a cross-border record about unspoken feelings.
The song deals with the things people struggle to say out loud. It talks about communication, love, and appreciation, and it pushes one clear idea: say what is in your heart before the chance is gone. That message is simple, and it hits close for a lot of listeners.
Yo Maps brings his soulful, Bemba-infused vocals, which give the song a melodic base. Lioness then cuts in with sharp, confident English rap. The contrast keeps things lively. One voice softens the mood, and the other adds bite.
The record also connects two scenes. Zambia and Namibia meet in the middle, and the song comes out of the Kavango sound of the Namibian group TKB. The group kept the project private before the launch, so the collaboration landed as a surprise. Songwriter Joseph Kandere said the surprise was part of the fun.
For TKB, the single shows a different emotional side. For Yo Maps and Lioness, it adds another cross-border credit to their names.
If you enjoy African collaborations with heart, this one is worth a spot on your playlist.
