Nigerian talented artist FOLA lands Davido on “2am in Toronto,” the third track on his sophomore album “9,” and an early single.
The collaboration came out ahead of the album, so fans had it in their hands before the full project landed. It follows “how many?” in the tracklist and leads into “stubborn,” which keeps the opening stretch moving between a big guest and solo moments. FOLA has said the link-up grew through organic industry connections and mutual respect for his sound. That tells you the pairing was not forced by a label.
The two already share history. FOLA appeared with Mayorkun on Davido’s “B4 B4” from “ORIADÉ,” so the chemistry carried over. Davido brings his energetic Afrobeats presence, and FOLA adds his soulful, melodic approach. Together they give the song contrast without losing balance.
The title paints a scene. Two in the morning in Toronto suggests a late night, a long day, and a mood that is hard to explain, which fits FOLA’s emotional style. Dangbana Republik and EMPIRE released the project, and Davido sits as one of six guests, alongside Ayra Starr, BNXN, Darkoo, Bella Shmurda, and Zlatan.
Landing a Davido feature this early on a sophomore album sends a clear signal. FOLA is aiming for the biggest stages, and he is bringing friends along.
Ride with “2am in Toronto” and tell us – does Davido push FOLA’s sound further?
