Nigerian singer FOLA reunites with BNXN on “My Type,” a slow-burn romance record from his sophomore album “9.”

The two have a history. BNXN jumped on the remix of FOLA’s breakout “alone,” which gave FOLA his first number one. Then FOLA returned the favour on BNXN’s “Very Soon” from the album “Captain.” So this meeting on “9” feels earned, not forced. Each artist has already shown he fits the other’s sound.

The mood sits at a slower pace. Early write-ups describe it as a slow-burn romance, and that fits what both singers do best. FOLA brings smooth, emotional delivery, and BNXN adds his recognisable vocal style. The song leans on melody and a contemporary Afrobeats base, so nothing pushes too hard. It lets the feeling build.

FOLA has been steady in this lane for a while. His debut EP “what a feeling” leaned on R&B-flavoured rhythms, and the debut album “Catharsis” followed. Bella Shmurda signed him as the first act on Dangbana Republik. Now “9” shows he can bring in names like Davido, Ayra Starr, and Darkoo while still keeping his own voice at the centre.

For fans who like romance records with a bit of patience, “My Type” is a good fit. It does not rush, and neither singer tries to outdo the other.

Settle into “My Type” and tell us – is this the best FOLA and BNXN link-up yet?
