DJ Maphorisa, DJ Tunez, and Wizkid join Lagos and Johannesburg on “South Gidi,” a three-track EP of Afrobeats and Amapiano.
The project came out last year, and it still works as a reference point for cross-border collaboration. DJ Maphorisa brings deep, soulful Amapiano grooves. DJ Tunez adds the polish and bounce of Nigerian production. Wizkid glides over both worlds with his signature vocal touch. The name says it all. “Gidi” is slang for Lagos, and “South” points to South Africa, so the EP builds a bridge between Lagos and Jozi. New Money Gang released it.
Each song brings its own guests. “Money Constant” features Mavo and runs just over six minutes, which gives the groove room to stretch. “Abangani” brings in South African voices Daliwonga and Madumane. “Fiesta” adds Zaba and Zeh McGeba for a party-ready finish. So the EP mixes Nigerian and South African talent in every slot, and no one feels like a guest in someone else’s home.
The EP also helped build DJ Tunez’s profile. By December 2025, he had become one of Nigeria’s most streamed DJs on Spotify, with more than 3.5 million monthly listeners, and “South Gidi” received wide praise in clubs and on social media. His later single “STATE OF MIND” with Wizkid continues that partnership.
For anyone who wants the full story of Afrobeats meeting Amapiano, this short EP is still a clean place to start.
