Fireboy DML reunites with Lojay on “GODDESS,” a romantic Afropop song with a tropical touch from his album “ZUKO!”
The two singers worked together in 2024 on “Letting Go,” the fifth track on Fireboy’s album “adedamola,” which Godomarr produced and the pair wrote together. That song dealt with the hurt of accepting a breakup. “GODDESS” flips the mood. It sits at track four on “ZUKO!,” right after the dancehall-flavoured “CLAAT!” with Masicka, and it moves to a softer, warmer place. So the album shifts quickly from heat to romance.
Black Culture is among the producers credited on the record, and the sound leans on bright, breezy Afropop. Fireboy brings his smooth, melodic voice, while Lojay adds the easy, silky tone that has made him a favourite for love songs. Their styles fit each other, and the tropical feel gives the song a holiday-like glow. It also sounds like a song made for late evenings and slow drives.
Titles about goddesses are not new in Afrobeats, but this one takes the idea seriously. The song treats the person at its centre with real admiration, not just flirting. That fits the more reflective, self-aware direction Fireboy has described for this album.
The reunion also continues a tradition on “ZUKO!” of bringing in familiar voices alongside new ones. Judah Earl, Masicka, JAZZWRLD, and Thukuthela fill the other guest slots.
For fans of Nigerian R&B-leaning Afropop, this one is an easy favourite.
