BigXthaPlug is back to his Southern rap roots with BETTER OVER TIME, an 18-track album featuring GloRilla, Lil Yachty, Ava Max, Leon Thomas and several other guest artists.
The Dallas rapper takes a different direction from his previous album, I Hope You’re Happy, where he explored country music. This time, he returns to the heavy rap sound that introduced him to a wider audience. However, he hasn’t completely abandoned the musical experiments that made his last project interesting.
There are some unexpected names on the guest list. Ava Max joins him on “BURN,” while Leon Thomas appears on “NO LIMIT.” GloRilla also makes an appearance on “FAF,” bringing her Memphis rap energy into the project. Another interesting collaboration comes on “BELIEVE,” where BigXthaPlug brings together Detroit rapper Babyface Ray and Lil Yachty.
Loe Shimmy joins him on “I LIKE IT,” while Fridayy handles a guest appearance on “HEAL ME.” Other collaborators include Ro$ama and Belly Gang Kushington.
Away from the guest appearances, BigXthaPlug gets plenty of room to himself. Songs such as “I GET IT,” “CRACCED,” “PEACE OF MIND” and “DOUBTED ME” keep the focus on his own delivery.
The album follows I Hope You’re Happy, which reached No. 7 on the Billboard 200. That project introduced a different side of the Dallas rapper, but BETTER OVER TIME brings the attention back to hip-hop.
The production credits include Tony Coles, Charley Cooks, BandPlay and JULiA LEWiS. Released through 600 Entertainment and UnitedMasters, the project runs for approximately 42 minutes.
