South African Amapiano producer MBUZI brings together some familiar names in the genre on ACHE, a seven-track project featuring Kabza De Small, Focalistic, Scotts Maphuma and other collaborators.
The album has a strong connection to the current South African Amapiano scene. MBUZI brings several producers and performers into the same project, giving each recording its own combination of artists. Rather than filling the album with short songs, he allows the instrumentals plenty of room to develop.
One name that appears repeatedly across the project is Kabza De Small. The Amapiano heavyweight is associated with several recordings on the album, including the opening track, “Intsimbi Rekere.” His involvement gives the project an interesting connection to the sound that has shaped modern Amapiano.
Focalistic also joins the lineup on “Mkokotlo,” alongside Tumza D’kota and Josiah De Disciple. Meanwhile, “Kutsa” brings together CowBoii, Scotts Maphuma and SLY. Another collaboration to check out is “Kwasa Kwasa,” featuring Xduppy, Optimist Music ZA, Benzoo and Al Xapo.
The remaining songs include “Migraine,” “DX” and “Masha.” Djy Vino also appears on the closing stretch of the project, while Xduppy makes another contribution on “Masha.”
ACHE runs for approximately 51 minutes, with individual songs lasting between six and eight minutes. That gives MBUZI enough room to explore the extended arrangements associated with South African dance music.
The project arrives under Piano Hub, with Sony Music Entertainment Africa handling distribution. It is another release for listeners following the collaborations coming out of South Africa’s Amapiano scene.
