Jamaican dancehall star Shenseea brings a new collection of music with CATALYST, an eight-track EP featuring Nigerian singer Asake, Vybz Kartel and American rapper Loe Shimmy.

There is an interesting mix of sounds on this project. Shenseea moves between dancehall, Afrobeats and R&B without completely leaving behind the Jamaican sound that introduced her to the world. She has spent the last few years expanding her audience, and this EP gives her another chance to explore different musical directions.

For Nigerian listeners, “Playtime” featuring Asake will likely attract plenty of attention. The YBNL singer brings his familiar street-inspired delivery into the collaboration, creating an interesting connection between Lagos and Kingston. It is one of the major guest appearances on the project.

Dancehall fans also have something to look forward to. Vybz Kartel joins Shenseea on “Talk To Me Nuh,” bringing the two Jamaican artists together again after their earlier collaboration on “Loodi.” Meanwhile, American rapper Loe Shimmy appears on “Private,” adding another dimension to the collection.

Shenseea also handles five songs without guest appearances. These include “Vulnerability,” “Danger,” “Garden,” “Body Language” and “2 Face Gyal.” The opening track, “Vulnerability,” takes a more personal direction as she addresses difficult experiences involving family, grief and trust.

The project follows her Grammy-nominated album Never Gets Late Here, which arrived in 2024. She now begins another chapter under Since ’93 and Columbia Records.

CATALYST contains eight tracks with a total runtime of approximately 21 minutes.
