Ghanaian singer Cojo Rae introduces his youthful take on traditional rhythms with his 14-track album titled Gen Z Highlife.

Highlife has been part of Ghanaian music for generations, but Cojo Rae wants younger listeners to feel connected to it too. That idea is behind this project. He takes the familiar Ghanaian sound and gives it a fresh direction without completely abandoning its roots.

The album opens with a short “Intro” before moving into the title track, “Gen Z Highlife.” He follows that with “Iskoki,” which had already started attracting attention before the album arrived. Another interesting recording is “Kwesi Arthur II,” featuring Quamina MP. The collaboration brings two different voices together on a song that should interest fans of Ghanaian hip-hop and highlife.

Cojo Rae also handles “I Can’t Explain (Adiza Maame),” “Dbee,” “Yeboo” and “Aberanteɛ” without guest appearances. Meanwhile, “Kasapa (Hating)” and “Far Away (Muna Giran Ruwa)” add more variety to the collection.

The bonus section brings additional collaborations. Beeztrap KOTM joins him on “Baby Daddy,” while Ypee appears on “Lala.” He also includes two versions of “Ready To Be Mine,” with the choir version giving the project a different closing sound.

Cojo Rae, whose real name is Raymond Agyapong, comes from Kumasi, Ghana. He has been building his career through independent releases and describes himself as an originator of Gen Z Highlife. His earlier songs include “Aketesia” and “Kwesi Arthur.”

The album was released independently and contains 14 songs with a runtime of approximately 37 minutes.
