South African DJ and producer Dlala Thukzin brings together some of the biggest names in the country’s dance music scene on Ember, a 10-track album featuring Kabza De Small, Young Stunna, Sino Msolo, Felo Le Tee and several other collaborators.
The Durban-born producer has built his name by moving between Afro-house, Amapiano and 3-Step. His music has found its way into clubs and festivals, and he has continued working with different artists without losing his own production identity. On Ember, he brings several of those musical relationships into one project.
One collaboration worth checking out is “Batshele,” featuring DankieBoi, Kabza De Small and Young Stunna. Getting these three names on one recording makes it an interesting addition to the album. Sino Msolo also appears on “Kuwe,” while JNR SA joins him on the same track.
There is more to explore beyond those appearances. “Imizwa” brings together Sino Msolo, DJ Arabic and Funky Qla, while “Monday” features Argento Dust and Felo Le Tee. Another interesting combination comes on “Stop & Go,” with Froote, Nitefreak and DJ Cliad.
The album also includes “Sobuye Sbonane” featuring Zeh McGeba, alongside “Ithuba,” which brings together Tribee of Afro, Sykes and Mpho.Wav. Meanwhile, Tracy and JNR DE ROCKA appear on “Wela.”
Dlala Thukzin opens the project with “EMBER (Intro),” featuring Zay Mkhize. The album closes with “Stop & Go,” giving listeners ten recordings with a combined runtime of approximately 62 minutes.
Released under his own Dlala Records imprint, Ember continues his exploration of South African dance music. His earlier hit “iPlan,” featuring Zaba and Sykes, helped take his sound to a much wider audience.
