South African Afro-House vocalist Q Bonke teams up with Mlooda on a fresh seven-track collaborative EP titled “STEP ZERO.”

The project title carries real intention. A “step zero” is the move made before everything else begins – the foundation, the starting point, the decision to actually begin. So Q Bonke and Mlooda are not presenting this as a grand arrival. They are presenting it as the first deliberate step in a direction they have chosen together. That framing keeps the EP grounded rather than overreaching.

Producer Siyanda Mlungisi runs through the project as the primary sonic architect, giving “STEP ZERO” a consistent sound despite the rotating cast of collaborators. That production consistency is what holds a multi-feature EP together – and it works here. The Afro-House and soulful Amapiano blend stays warm and cohesive from the ImbongiYosizi intro through to the closing “Utshwala” with MalumNator and Cadie Yano.

The collaborator selection also shows range without losing focus. Felo Le Tee and Smoove bring dancefloor credibility on “Mngani.” Miikey Ndlovu appears across multiple tracks as the EP’s most consistent vocal thread. Zee Nxumalo and Soul Nativez add depth on “Wole.” Each feature earns its placement rather than padding the tracklist.
