Enugu-born rapper Tuff King unveils his debut project titled “Black Sheepizen,” a six-track EP that laid the foundation for his entire Igbo rap movement.

Released July 1, 2024 under his own Black Sheep Pen imprint, the project runs just over 15 minutes but covers real emotional ground within that short window. Tuff King uses it to move from raw street trauma on opener “Pain Pass” all the way through to reflective closure on “Gividem.”

Coming from Abakpa Nike in Enugu, Tuff King writes from a place shaped by real hardship rather than borrowed street imagery. Because of that, tracks like “Self Defense” speak specifically to survival instincts needed to navigate his home city, while “Ichaka Ike” leans fully into Igbo language as a display of pure lyrical technique.

Waka Waka” became the project’s breakout moment, eventually pulling in over 129,000 plays and cementing that “black sheep” chant as his signature sound. Meanwhile, deep cuts like “45 Street Girl” and “Self Defense” found a rapper willing to experiment in Nigerian Drill and Afro Adura influences, not willing to be boxed into one style.

As a debut statement, “Black Sheepizen” positioned Tuff King as a voice worth watching in Igbo rap, a foundation his later project “Black Sheepizen (The 13th Disciple)” continues building on.
