Manchester rapper Aitch flips a disco classic on “RMB (Ring My Bell),” pulling that famous Anita Ward hook straight into UK rap territory.
That hook carries real history. Frederick Knight originally wrote it for an eleven-year-old singer before reworking it for Ward in 1979, and it’s since been sampled by everyone from DJ Jazzy Jeff to house producers. Aitch clearly knew what he was reaching for. Bou, the producer behind this one, apparently played him the original for the first time in session, and that spark turned into the whole track.
Bou builds the beat around house-leaning production, the same lane he explored on Aitch’s “Raving In The Studio.” Four-on-the-floor energy runs underneath, but it never loses that UK rap bounce Aitch is known for. The mix leans bright and uptempo, staying loyal to the disco DNA it’s sampling. Nothing here feels like a lazy interpolation.
Aitch rides the beat with his usual playful confidence, sliding easily between flexing and flirting. His verses lean into that same wink-and-nudge energy the original hook always carried. He doesn’t try to outshine Ward’s sample, he lets it lead while he adds color around it. That restraint actually works in the song’s favor.
RMB succeeds because it respects where the hook came from while still sounding current. Aitch has built a career on catchy, radio-ready records, and this one slots right into that run. It’s bouncy without being throwaway.
