Dapper brings in the extraordinary L.A.X and Balloranking for “Alafia (Peace),” and the title’s carrying more than just a translation this time.
Alafia means peace, straightforward enough, but three voices on one peace record usually means something bigger’s being said. Dapper’s not keeping this small. L.A.X and Balloranking both bring their own weight to a theme that could easily feel preachy in lesser hands.
Beat stays warm, Afropop foundation with light percussion and a guitar line that doesn’t rush anywhere. Nothing aggressive in the production choices here. Space exists for the message to actually land instead of getting buried under noise.
Dapper opens with a calm, grounded delivery, setting the tone before handing things over. Doesn’t oversing the plea for peace, keeps it measured. That restraint matters for a theme this big, shouting it wouldn’t land the same.
L.A.X and Balloranking split the rest, each adding their own read on peace without repeating what Dapper already said. Neither one turns preachy about it either. Three artists circling one idea, none of them overselling it.
“Alafia (Peace)” could’ve easily tipped into cliché, but Dapper and crew keep it grounded instead. Nobody’s performing peace here, they’re just asking for it plainly. That restraint is what makes it actually work.
