Ghanaian rapper Essumann drops “Ghetto Therapy PT II,” a tape that turns personal struggle into some of the most emotionally honest street music out of Ghana this year.
The “Ghetto Therapy” name does real work here. Essumann isn’t just packaging songs under a catchy title – he’s using the tape as a genuine outlet, processing regret, ambition, faith, love, and survival across a body of work that moves through very different emotional registers without ever losing his core identity.
The tape opens with “Intro,” a slow-burning, reflective curtain-raiser built on acoustic guitar and soft piano that sets the tone before anything else plays. From there, Essumann alternates between vulnerable solo cuts and pointed collaborations. “Pray For Me” and “Second Chance” sit among the most exposed moments on the project – one a plea for support, the other an admission of past mistakes paired with hope for redemption.
The collaborations add real range. “Big Bricks II” brings in Medikal and Lalid for a confident, top-charting hip hop record that’s already crossed a million plays.
“Too Many Nights II” pairs AratheJay’s warmth with Kojo Trap’s street grit for a late-night, insomnia-fueled anthem. “On My Mind” unites Quamina MP and Kofi Mole for a three-way blend of melody and rap, followed by the stripped-down “On Ma Mind (Bonus)” – just Essumann alone with a guitar and a confession about staying faithful to someone he loves.
Tracklist includes:
Intro, Pray For Me, Second Chance, Too Many Riches, Get Rich, Push To Start, Flight, Big Bricks II Ft. Medikal & Lalid, Too Many Nights II Ft. AratheJay & Kojo Trap, On My Mind Ft. Quamina MP & Kofi Mole, On Ma Mind (Bonus)
