Lagos-based Afrobeats artist GAFGOLD brings a fresh dance concept to the streets with “IJO GAFFY,” a lively Fuji-fusion street-pop record produced by jtunes.
The title translates to “Gaffy’s Dance” in Yoruba – and GAFGOLD built the whole record around that invitation. The pre-release phrase “Sho ma Jijo Gaffy?” meaning “Will you dance the Gaffy dance?” already had people asking questions online before the song dropped. That kind of teaser language is smart marketing, but it only works when the record actually delivers something worth dancing to. This one does.
The Fuji percussion underneath gives “IJO GAFFY” a cultural rootedness that sets it apart from standard street-pop releases. GAFGOLD does not just borrow the Fuji aesthetic – he builds the whole groove around it, then layers modern street-pop energy on top. So the record feels both traditional and current simultaneously. That balance is exactly what the best Fuji-fusion records achieve when they are done right.
Whiteshe Records handled the engineering, mixing, and mastering – and the production shows a polished finish that keeps the street character without softening it into something generic. The punchy, dance-ready arrangement stays tight throughout without letting the energy drop.
The DJ Chicken co-sign and accompanying dance challenge rollout also show a team that understands how records travel in 2026. A song built around a dance concept needs social media momentum from day one – and “IJO GAFFY” clearly arrived with that infrastructure in place.
