South African Gqom artist King Salah links up with Villagegirl_RSA, Reexhii, and Mis Lay on a high-energy new single titled “Ooh Morena.”

Four names on one Gqom record sounds like a crowd. But the genre thrives on collective energy – so this lineup actually fits the music perfectly. King Salah and Villagegirl_RSA anchor the collaboration, while Reexhii and Mis Lay add the vocal layers that give “Ooh Morena” its full body. So the record never feels split between too many directions. Instead, it moves as one.

The title “Morena” means “Lord” or “Chief” in Sesotho and Setswana. But in a Gqom context, it carries a different weight – reverence mixed with street swagger.

The production hits exactly where it should. Pulsating beats and catchy melodic hooks run through the entire track without letting the energy drop at any point. Yet the arrangement leaves enough space for all four artists to land clearly. Because tight Gqom production can easily swallow vocal performances – but King Salah clearly knows how to balance the two.

Villagegirl_RSA brings her own audience into the room, and that matters. Though King Salah leads the record, having a female voice in the collaboration gives “Ooh Morena” a broader reach than a purely male-led Gqom single would achieve.

For South African dance music fans, this one is built for the dancefloor – loud, communal, and impossible to stand still to.
