Mahostela 971, the amazing South African Maskandi artist links up with Mjolisi on a thrilling bop called “Uwena Wedwa.”
Mahostela 97’s been busy this year, always seems to have a new collab dropping. Mjolisi brings that same Maskandi energy that’s been getting traction lately, especially online. Put them together and you get something built for that genre’s core fans.
The guitar work on Mahostela 97i – Uwena Wedwa stays traditional, nothing electronic sneaking in to mess with it. It’s rhythmic, steady, the kind of pattern Maskandi’s built on for decades. Neither artist tries to modernize it beyond recognition.
Mahostela 971 handles his verses with that grounded, storytelling delivery he’s known for. Nothing rushed, nothing overdone. He lets the words carry themselves.
Mjolisi steps in and adds his own flavor, that romantic, almost pleading tone his recent stuff has leaned into. The two voices trade off well, not stepping on each other.
