Nigerian Afro-house queen Niniola shares “Teardrops,” a gentler track from her four-song “Without You” EP dedicated to her late husband.
The EP opens with “Pain,” sits at its heaviest, then gradually shifts. By the time “Teardrops” arrives near the end alongside “Somebody’s Baby,” the mood has changed noticeably. Where earlier tracks carried raw grief, this one moves toward something softer, almost like acceptance settling in rather than sorrow staying sharp.
That shift matters because Niniola built her name on high-energy Afro-house records, not reflection. So hearing her navigate this territory, quietly and without her usual dance-floor urgency, marks a real departure. She isn’t performing recovery here. She’s letting the song track something closer to what actually happens after loss – not a clean ending, just a lighter weight.
The production stays understated throughout, giving her voice room to carry the emotional shift without instrumental distraction. Because the arrangement doesn’t reach for a big moment, the song feels more like a private conversation than a public statement.
Following her husband Michael Ndika’s passing in May, “Teardrops” shows an artist finding her way back to sound without pretending the loss is behind her.
