Ghanaian highlife musician Ofori Amponsah brings back one of his early songs as Jane (Remix), featuring Kurl SongX.

The original Jane sits on Daddy Lumba’s album Wo Ho Kyere, with Ofori Amponsah featured. Ofori Amponsah now revisits it as the lead name, so the roles flip. Blogs describe it as a love ballad with silky Twi phrasing. Ofori Amponsah goes by Mr All 4 Real.

The remix runs mid-tempo, with guitar licks and electric piano chords on top. A fluid bassline and a steady Afro-highlife drumbeat leave plenty of breathing room. That relaxed bounce suits a love song, though Kurl SongX lifts the chorus with falsetto runs.

Kurl SongX won the fifth season of MTN Hitmaker. He has also been a VGMA nominee. Blogs call the pairing a meeting of two generations, yet the remix keeps the original’s romance. Ofori Amponsah, for his part, has an R&B streak in his music.

Odo Nwom (Remix), with Stonebwoy and KiDi, also carries his name. Seventeen, with Kwabena Kwabena, is another love song in his catalogue. He later became a pastor and released the gospel album The Gospel According to Ofori. Kick back with Jane (Remix) and tell us in the comments – does the remix beat the original for you?
