Nigerian Afropop artist Tekno keeps the romance flowing on “Gently,” another self-produced highlight from his album “Where Did Love Go?”
Coming right after “Wedding Day,” this one shifts the mood into something lighter and more effortless. Where the previous track celebrated commitment with real emotional weight, “Gently” settles into easy-going confidence instead, the kind of romantic record that doesn’t need to prove anything.
Because Tekno produced this one entirely on his own, it carries that same intimate, hands-on quality found throughout much of the album. His melodic instincts show clearly here, blending smooth Afropop textures with a relaxed rhythm that never rushes toward a big moment. Everything unfolds patiently, almost conversationally.
His vocal delivery is slow and steady, matching the song’s title in tone and tempo. There’s nothing strained or overdone in the performance, and that restraint gives the record a real, lived-in warmth rather than manufactured sentiment.
Just before the album’s closer “Avelay,” “Gently” acts as a subtle bridge between the emotional toll of former songs and the feel-good resolution waiting at the finish line. That sequencing choice shows real intentionality in how the project was structured.
As part of “Where Did Love Go?” Tekno continues proving why his melodic touch has attracted collaborators like Beyoncé and Drake over the years.
