Blown Boy Entertainment’s Ruger delivers his most personal solo project yet with “R.U. (Raw & Unfiltered), Vol. 1,” a five-track EP.
The title is not a marketing angle. In his own words – “To know me, is to know that I am RAW. To know me, is to know that I am UNFILTERED.” So every creative decision on this project flows from that declaration. No borrowed sounds, no commercial compromises, no explanations. Just Ruger operating exactly the way he wants to.
The EP’s range is what makes it genuinely interesting. “She Don’t Like Men” swings playfully into relationship territory. “Do Nothing” with Musa Keys and Young Stunna builds a cross-border Amapiano bridge that expands his South African audience. “PRIVATE CHEF” with MC Morena pulls in a Brazilian energy nobody expected. “ALL DIE” goes introspective and heavy. “Loved at Home” provides the EP’s most vulnerable moment. Then “Jesus Loves Me” closes everything with a faith-driven record that confirms Ruger answers to himself above all else.
Sons of Sonix run production across multiple tracks, continuing the British-Nigerian duo’s creative relationship with Ruger and giving the project a consistent sonic spine despite the stylistic variety. That production consistency is what stops the EP from feeling scattered.
Since leaving Jonzing World and building Blown Boy Entertainment independently, every release Ruger makes carries the full weight of creative ownership. “R.U. (Raw & Unfiltered), Vol. 1” is the most complete expression of that freedom yet.
