Port Harcourt-born singer Vicoka delivers his debut eight-track EP “Spirit,” a project that traces a journey from depression to finding peace in faith.

The record arrived on August 11, 2025, through House Music, and it stands as one of the most underrated Nigerian projects of that year .

The EP works as a continuous story rather than a random collection of songs. Vicoka built the first three tracks around feeling down and not being himself, before the back half shifts toward finding God and healing . So the listening experience feels intentional. He taps into Afropop and South-South cultural heritage, but he does not let the genre-blending distract from the emotional core .

The title track with Wizard Chan became the viral entry point. Vicoka admitted he did not even know how to approach Wizard Chan about the feature, but the artist heard the song and played it repeatedly before agreeing to jump on it . That organic co-sign gives “Spirit” a credibility that a label push could not buy. Elsewhere, “Port Harcourt” stands out as a reflective hometown anthem, while tracks like “Blessings” bring in Halle and SolaceDaMenace for added texture .

What makes this project worth revisiting is how Vicoka handles his role as what he calls a “preacher of hope” . He does not shy away from the painful parts of his story, including the loss of his father, but he also refuses to stay stuck there. The EP moves through sadness, joy, and dance without losing its spiritual thread.
