Turkish folk-pop artist Mabel Matiz steps into completely new sonic territory with “Ha Leylim,” a three-minute single released August 11, 2026 as the lead single for his upcoming album “Limoncello.”
The record marks the first time Matiz has worked in 9/8 time – a rhythm signature rooted in folk dance traditions – and he blends that structure with 1960s and 70s pop and psychedelic influences, all produced by Cem Özel. The result has fans on Turkish music forums comparing it to Barış Manço, which is a significant reference point in terms of cultural warmth and musical personality. Grammy-winning engineer Prash Mistry handled the mix and mastering, giving the record a polished finish that supports rather than suffocates the folk energy underneath.
The music video – directed by Sinan Tuncay, who previously worked with Matiz on “Sarmaşık” and “A Canım” – has drawn its own attention, with a carnival atmosphere and bold visual styling that fits the song’s riotous rhythm perfectly.
The release has also stirred genuine controversy. Istanbul prosecutors opened an obscenity investigation into “Ha Leylim” two days after its release, following social media pressure. Matiz previously faced a similar charge over “Perperişan” and was acquitted. But none of that has slowed the song’s momentum.
