South African singer MaWhoo links up with Sami’Kay and MSA on Nam Angeke, a four-minute Afro house record.
Nam Angeke runs 4 minutes 16 seconds, so it has room to stretch out. One listing names MaWhoo’s own label, MaWhoo Entertainment, on the credits. Sites tag it Afro house, and one calls it Amapiano. One site calls Sami’Kay a South African singer-songsmith.
MaWhoo was born Thandeka Ngema in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal. Okmalumkoolkat gave her the stage name, which means magical in Japanese. Early on, a local radio station refused to play her music because of her age. Umshado, her debut single with Heavy-K, put her on the map.
She also teamed up with Master KG on Inkanyezi, a record with Lowsheen. Mthandeni SK also brought her onto Gucci. Bengicela, a single full of pleas for hope, climbed to the top of the charts. Kulula passed one million streams.
She modelled for brands such as Tribe Afrique and House of Supreme while she worked on her music. Gender-based violence is a cause she speaks out about. Fans can stream it on Spotify, according to one download page.
Throw on Nam Angeke and tell us in the comments which of the three voices you heard first.
