South African artist Veeleven joins the wave of tributes flowing for Maskandi icon Inkos’Yamagcokama with “Hamba Kahle Nkos’yamagcokama,” a farewell record for the late Scebi Dlamini.
The phrase “hamba kahle” means “go well” in isiZulu – a gentle but final send-off, and the most fitting title a tribute song could carry right now.
Veeleven is not the only one paying tribute. Khuzani and Nkosazana KG released their own “RIP Inkosi Yamagcokama,” Limit Nala dropped “Lashona ngendaba zalo,” and Shwi noMtekhala performed a live tribute at the Umgowo Experience at Carnival City. But the volume of artists stepping forward says something about the man himself. You do not move this many people to create unless you gave them something real.
“Hamba Kahle Nkos’yamagcokama” carries the personal dimension that makes individual tributes matter even when many others exist. Veeleven brings their own voice and their own grief to the moment, rather than simply following a template. And in a genre as rooted in authenticity as Maskandi, that sincerity is everything.
