Woza Bakzin and GoldMax bring Zee Nxumalo and Solan Lo back for “Challenge DC,” another notch in this ongoing run of theirs.
Zee Nxumalo’s a returning face after “Cosh’ uPin,” so there’s already some chemistry built in here. Solan Lo’s new to the crew though, fresh voice in the mix. Challenge-style titles usually mean something competitive going on lyrically, and this one doesn’t stray from that.
GoldMax keeps the log drum foundation steady, standard stuff at this point for the duo. A call-and-response type structure runs through parts of the beat though, gives it a bit of a battle feel. Fits the challenge concept without overcomplicating anything.
Woza Bakzin opens with some swagger, throwing down whatever the challenge actually is. Doesn’t take itself too seriously, more playful than aggressive. Sets a loose tone for whoever’s answering back.
Zee Nxumalo answers with that same cutting tone from before, still effective. Solan Lo closes it out, holding their own against two returning names pretty well for a first appearance. Nobody backs down, which is really the whole point of a challenge track anyway.
“Challenge DC” leans into competition but keeps it fun rather than tense. Another solid entry in what’s becoming a genuinely deep catalogue for Woza Bakzin and GoldMax.
