Manyarela returns with “Ha Li Jaroe,” a Sesotho gospel track leaning into something heavier than most of her recent run.
Translation’s tricky here, something around burdens not being carried, or maybe refusing to carry what isn’t yours. Either reading fits the mood honestly. After the tribute-style warmth of the grandmother song, this one pulls back into more familiar territory, that searching, working-through-it energy from earlier tracks.
Same stripped setup as usual, guitar leading, hand drums trailing behind at a respectful distance. Nothing new sonically, but that’s not really a complaint. Consistency’s kind of become her whole thing at this point, and it still works here.
Vocally she sounds a bit worn on this one, not in a bad way, just tired in the way someone gets after carrying something too long. There’s less climbing toward higher notes, more sitting in a lower, steadier register. Fits the subject matter better than a big vocal moment would’ve.
The lyrics keep returning to weight, what gets carried, what should be set down instead. No clean resolution offered here either. Feels like she’s still working through the thought by the time the song ends.
