South African vocalist Minollar and DJ Alex RSA open the “Let’s Dance” EP with “uNodoli,” a bold Afro-House and Gqom record that wastes no time.

The title means “Doll” in Zulu and Xhosa – and Minollar’s “Gqom Barbie” persona runs through every second of the record. She does not arrive here playing it safe. The confidence in her delivery matches the aggression in the production. So the record feels like an artist who knows exactly what she is doing and has no interest in toning it down.

DJ Alex RSA sets the tone immediately. Gqom-inspired drums and driving basslines hit first before bright synth textures layer over the top, building a fast-moving rhythm that never slows. So the beat carries real pressure from the opening bar. But Minollar’s soulful vocals cut through that heavier sound with warmth rather than competing against it. Because the contrast between the electronic edge and the vocal delivery is exactly what gives “uNodoli” its distinctive character.

As an EP opener, the placement is smart. “uNodoli” signals the energy of “Let’s Dance” before a second track plays. Listeners know immediately what they are walking into – something high-energy, personality-driven, and built for movement. That kind of declaration at track one sets the right expectation for everything that follows.

For South African dance music fans who follow both Afro-House and Gqom scenes, this collaboration delivers something from both worlds without sacrificing either.
