South African Amapiano duo TNK MusiQ team up with Seun1401 on “Jazz 1,” track sixteen off “iiNgcambu zikaThixo.” The name hints at a smoother, more musical mood, and it delivers that.
This is a repeat pairing. Seun1401 has already turned up on “Uyaphapha Marn,” “Symphonic Prayer” and “Ngeke Balunge” with the Johannesburg duo. Kyle De Producer and T-Man RSA also count DJ Maphorisa, Mellow & Sleazy and DBN Gogo among their past collaborators. So the bar for this record was already high.
Percussion runs rhythmically through the track, and the bass moves with weight. Electronic textures sit in the background and give the whole thing a slick finish. It leans jazzy in feel, which suits the title.
Lyrics and vocals aren’t clearly documented yet. I’d rather not invent a story. What I can hear from the setup is a groove built to carry itself, no big hook required.
Placed just before “H14,” it keeps the album’s later run steady and connected. That’s smart pacing across a twenty-song project.
