Woza Bakzin and GoldMax return again, feature-free, with “Umahlafuna,” another instrumental leaning into their darker gqom-amapiano hybrid.
Third one from this pairing without a vocalist attached, seems like a pattern more than a phase at this point. Umahlafuna’s one of those titles that doesn’t translate cleanly, something around chewing or grinding through, and honestly the beat backs that reading up. Feels like it’s working something over, mechanically almost.
Percussion’s the whole story again, layers stacking and shifting without much melodic relief. GoldMax keeps the low end tight, Woza Bakzin’s touch shows in how the rhythm keeps twisting just when it threatens to settle. Less gqom-leaning than “Gqom In Black II” honestly, more back toward straight amapiano bounce, just harder edged.
No vocals, same deal as before, so the groove’s carrying everything on its own. Works fine for what it is. A few sections repeat a bit longer than they probably need to, but that’s kind of standard for tracks built purely for mixing.
Not much to unpack lyrically since there isn’t any. This is functional music first, artistic statement a distant second, and that’s fine, not every track needs to be both.
Third instrumental in a row from these two, starting to feel like their actual specialty now.
